Ms. Luaces-Ferray was charged conspiring to import hundreds of pounds of marijuana into the United States by boat. She was arrested on the high seas with her co-defendant who was sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence. Mr. Seitles persuasively argued that his client was the sole breadwinner and caretaker of her family, that she survived an abusive and traumatic adolescence, and that she had a strong proven work ethic.

The Judge sentenced Ms. Luaces-Ferray to five years probation.
